Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend, or on
your own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.
1.Pray for each other, our church, and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us. Share a recent entry from your Life Journal with the group.
2. This Sunday, the message focus was: “A Kingdom Divided?” What thoughts or questions did the message raise for you? Which ones, especially in light of this “coronavirus world,” encouraged you or posed a challenge to you?
3. Read Matthew 12:22-37. The Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out the demons by the power of Beelzebub. What do you think this revealed more? Their erroneous understanding of who Jesus was and the authority his disciples had through Him? Or the jealousy they felt toward his power and influence? What lesson might Christian leaders be able to learn from this passage today?
4. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is described (v. 32) as the
unforgivable sin.” This teaches us that any action can be forgiven, except
for the rejection of the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit in our own life.
Are you a Christian – have you been “born again” by the Spirit? Being born
again, you are with Jesus and living in His kingdom. Do you experience that life? How?
5. In vv. 35-37, the power and impact of our words are described. Why is
our speech and the words that we say so important? (Matt. 10:34; Luke
6:45; Prov. 10:11) What can they reveal about the condition of our heart
and our position as a Christ-follower and place in the kingdom? Who is
reflected in your speech – Jesus, or something else?”
6. Take a moment of silence to consider how God is speaking to you
through the message you have heard today. Is God asking you to make
changes or to do something new? What concrete steps of response do
you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
