Worship Fails and How to Fix Them - Phil Kendon
We have all seen funny moments happen during the worship time of a service, whether it is a drummer going wild or a slip or trip on stage. But the kind of worship fails that are far more damaging are the fails that affect our relationship with God. Worship is a lifestyle. Worship is a relationship. Worship is everything we do to please God, which is what we were created for in the first place. When we get asked how our relationship with God is going, our answer reveals something about the way we define that relationship. It could be about the things we do or don’t do, our feelings or the approval of others. But at the end of the day, God is looking for worshippers who worship in Spirit and in truth and we can become those kinds of worshippers if we avoid these pitfalls.

Fail number 1: Defining our worship by what we do

We know our relationship with God is good when we feel the same way he does about injustice, compassion and faithfulness.
Fail number 2: Relying on feelings

Are you looking for the next spiritual experience or a life of faith and obedience?
Fail number 3: Relying on others for approval

It doesn’t matter what other people think of us, what matters is what God sees in the heart.
Fail number 4: Defining our worship by what we didn’t do

Just because we didn’t commit a “major sin” doesn’t mean that we are close to God.
Fail number 5: Making it about physical presence instead of spiritual engagement

We can be present in body with our minds a hundred miles away – but that isn’t really worship. The Father is seeking our spiritual engagement with him.
Let's Apply It:
The Father is seeking worshippers who worship in Spirit and in truth.
