Wrestling with God for His Promises - Phil Kendon
Jacob is an interesting bible character that seems to have many flaws but also to walk in the blessing of God. His life reaches a critical moment one night, when he finds himself alone, running from his past with Laban and afraid of his future meeting with his brother Esau. It is a key moment of decision for Jacob – will he keep trying to make his own plans or will he seek God’s blessing alone? This story is a powerful reminder of how we should remember the promises God has made, seek him with all our strength and walk into the plans he has for our lives by faith. Being stuck in the middle can turn out to be the circumstances that teach us to rely on God completely.

1. A blessing promised

Jacob is not taking the initiative. He is responding to the blessing God has already promised.
2. A determination to have it

We can listen to the voice of reason to make things happen on our own, or we can refuse to let God go until he fulfils his promises.
3. A walk of faith

You can’t get to the destination of the promise without going on the journey of obedience by faith. The promise lies at the end of the path of obedience.
