The Birth of the Church: Week 2 - Phil Kendon
The events of Pentecost are a significant step in the formation of the church. Something happened that day that is still fuelling the boldness and intimacy of the church today. On that day, the Holy Spirit was poured out onto the earth, the first church sermon was preached, and the people responded with deep conviction. That same water is still available for us to drink and that same message still demands a response today.

1. Pentecost was unique in some ways, but not in others

- Pentecost was unique because the church was all together in one place. It was the day that the Spirit was poured out on the earth and it was symbolic of the open invitation.
- Pentecost was not unique because we can all drink of the same Spirit and see the results of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives today.
2. It’s all about Jesus

- Jesus is the cornerstone of the church and the only safe foundation on which to build.
3. The message demanded a response.

- It was our sin that nailed Jesus to the cross and it is this revelation that fuels a genuine relationship with God today.
