Psalms 41:4-6
Psalms 41:4-7 The Message (MSG)
I said, “GOD, be gracious! Put me together again— my sins have torn me to pieces.” My enemies are wishing the worst for me; they make bets on what day I will die. If someone comes to see me, he mouths empty platitudes, All the while gathering gossip about me to entertain the street-corner crowd. These “friends” who hate me whisper slanders all over town. They form committees to plan misery for me.
Psalms 41:4-6 King James Version (KJV)
I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: Heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish? And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: His heart gathereth iniquity to itself; When he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
Psalms 41:4-6 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
As for me, I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” My enemies speak evil against me, “When will he die, and his name perish?” And when he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it.
Psalms 41:4-6 New Century Version (NCV)
I said, “LORD, have mercy on me. Heal me, because I have sinned against you.” My enemies are saying evil things about me. They say, “When will he die and be forgotten?” Some people come to see me, but they lie. They just come to get bad news. Then they go and gossip.
Psalms 41:4-6 American Standard Version (ASV)
I said, O Jehovah, have mercy upon me: Heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. Mine enemies speak evil against me, saying, When will he die, and his name perish? And if he come to see me, he speaketh falsehood; His heart gathereth iniquity to itself: When he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
Psalms 41:4-6 New International Version (NIV)
I said, “Have mercy on me, LORD; heal me, for I have sinned against you.” My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die and his name perish?” When one of them comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it around.
Psalms 41:4-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
I said, “LORD, be merciful to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” My enemies speak evil of me: “When will he die, and his name perish?” And if he comes to see me, he speaks lies; His heart gathers iniquity to itself; When he goes out, he tells it.
Psalms 41:4-6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
¶As for me, I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” My enemies speak evil of me, saying, “When will he die and his name perish?” And when one comes to see me, he speaks empty words, While his heart gathers malicious gossip [against me]; When he goes away, he tells it [everywhere].
Psalms 41:4-6 New Living Translation (NLT)
“O LORD,” I prayed, “have mercy on me. Heal me, for I have sinned against you.” But my enemies say nothing but evil about me. “How soon will he die and be forgotten?” they ask. They visit me as if they were my friends, but all the while they gather gossip, and when they leave, they spread it everywhere.
Psalms 41:4-6 The Passion Translation (TPT)
So in my sickness I say to you, “Lord, be my kind healer. Heal my body and soul; heal me, God! For I have confessed my sins to you.” But those who hate me wish the worst for me, saying, “When will he die and be forgotten?” And when these “friends” come to visit me with their pious sympathy and their hollow words and with hypocrisy hidden in their hearts, I can see right through it all. For they come merely to gather gossip about me, using all they find to mock me with malicious hearts of slander.
Psalms 41:4-6 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
As for me, I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you!” My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die, and his name perish?” And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers iniquity; when he goes out, he tells it abroad.
