It does not belong to us, LORD. The glory belongs to you because of your love and loyalty. Why do the nations ask, “Where is their God?” Our God is in heaven. He does what he pleases. Their idols are made of silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but they cannot speak. They have eyes, but they cannot see. They have ears, but they cannot hear. They have noses, but they cannot smell. They have hands, but they cannot feel. They have feet, but they cannot walk. No sounds come from their throats. People who make idols will be like them, and so will those who trust them. Family of Israel, trust the LORD; he is your helper and your protection. Family of Aaron, trust the LORD; he is your helper and your protection. You who respect the LORD should trust him; he is your helper and your protection. The LORD remembers us and will bless us. He will bless the family of Israel; he will bless the family of Aaron. The LORD will bless those who respect him, from the smallest to the greatest. May the LORD give you success, and may he give you and your children success. May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Heaven belongs to the LORD, but he gave the earth to people. Dead people do not praise the LORD; those in the grave are silent. But we will praise the LORD now and forever. Praise the LORD!

Not for our sake, GOD, no, not for our sake, but for your name’s sake, show your glory. Do it on account of your merciful love, do it on account of your faithful ways. Do it so none of the nations can say, “Where now, oh where is their God?” Our God is in heaven doing whatever he wants to do. Their gods are metal and wood, handmade in a basement shop: Carved mouths that can’t talk, painted eyes that can’t see, Tin ears that can’t hear, molded noses that can’t smell, Hands that can’t grasp, feet that can’t walk or run, throats that never utter a sound. Those who make them have become just like them, have become just like the gods they trust. But you, Israel: put your trust in GOD! —trust your Helper! trust your Ruler! Why should the unbelievers mock us, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” But we know our God rules from the heavens, and he takes delight in all that he does. The unbelievers worship what they make— their wealth and their work. They idolize what they own and what they make with their hands, but their things can’t talk to them or answer their prayers. Their possessions will never satisfy. Their futile faith in dead idols and dead works can never bring life or meaning to their souls. Blind men can only create blind things. Those deaf to God can only make a deaf image. Dead men can only create dead idols. And everyone who trusts in these powerless, dead things will be just like what they worship—powerless and dead. So trust in the Lord, all his people. For he is the only true hero, the wraparound God who is our shield! You, his priests, trust in the Lord.
