Hebrews 4:5-6
Hebrews 4:3-7 The Message (MSG)
God made that vow, even though he’d finished his part before the foundation of the world. Somewhere it’s written, “God rested the seventh day, having completed his work,” but in this other text he says, “They’ll never be able to sit down and rest.” So this promise has not yet been fulfilled. Those earlier ones never did get to the place of rest because they were disobedient. God keeps renewing the promise and setting the date as today, just as he did in David’s psalm, centuries later than the original invitation: Today, please listen, don’t turn a deaf ear . . .
Hebrews 4:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief
Hebrews 4:5-6 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
and again in this passage, “THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.” Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience
Hebrews 4:5-6 New Century Version (NCV)
And again in the Scripture God said, “They will never enter my rest.” It is still true that some people will enter God’s rest, but those who first heard the way to be saved did not enter, because they did not obey.
Hebrews 4:5-6 American Standard Version (ASV)
and in this place again, They shall not enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some should enter thereinto, and they to whom the good tidings were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience
Hebrews 4:5-6 New International Version (NIV)
And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.” Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience
Hebrews 4:5-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.” Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience
Hebrews 4:5-6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
and again in this, “THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.” [Ps 95:11] Therefore, since the promise remains for some to enter His rest, and those who formerly had the good news preached to them failed to [grasp it and did not] enter because of [their unbelief evidenced by] disobedience
Hebrews 4:5-6 New Living Translation (NLT)
But in the other passage God said, “They will never enter my place of rest.” So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God.
Hebrews 4:5-6 The Passion Translation (TPT)
And again, as stated before, They will not enter into my rest. Those who first heard the good news of deliverance failed to enter into that realm of faith’s rest because of their unbelieving hearts. Yet the fact remains that we still have the opportunity to enter into the faith-rest life and experience the fulfillment of the promise!
