Psalms 82

Psalm 82
A psalm by Asaph.
1God takes his place in his own assembly.
He pronounces judgment among the gods:
2“How long are you going to judge unfairly?
How long are you going to side with wicked people?” Selah
3Defend weak people and orphans.
Protect the rights of the oppressed and the poor.
4Rescue weak and needy people.
Help them escape the power of wicked people.
5Wicked people do not know or understand anything.
As they walk around in the dark,
all the foundations of the earth shake.
6I said, “You are gods.
You are all sons of the Most High.
7You will certainly die like humans
and fall like any prince.”
8Arise, O God!
Judge the earth, because all the nations belong to you.

A Plea for Justice
A Psalm of Asaph.
1God #(2 Chr. 19:6; Eccl. 5:8)stands in the congregation of the mighty;
He judges among #Ps. 82:6the gods.
2How long will you judge unjustly,
And #(Deut. 1:17); Prov. 18:5show partiality to the wicked?
Selah
3Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and #(Deut. 24:17; Is. 11:4; Jer. 22:16)needy.
4Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.
5They do not know, nor do they understand;
They walk about in darkness;
All the #Ps. 11:3foundations of the earth are unstable.
6I said, #John 10:34“You are gods,
And all of you are children of the Most High.
7But you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the princes.”
