Song of Solomon 5

5
He
1I #[ch. 4:16; 6:2] came to my garden, my #ch. 4:9, 10, 12 sister, my bride,
I gathered my #ver. 5, 13; ch. 4:14 myrrh with my spice,
I ate my #ch. 4:11 honeycomb with my honey,
I #[Prov. 9:5] drank my wine with my milk.
Others
Eat, #[John 15:14, 15]friends, drink,
and be drunk with love!
The Bride Searches for Her Beloved
She
2I slept, but my heart was awake.
A sound! My beloved is #[Rev. 3:20] knocking.
“Open to me, my #ch. 4:9, 10, 12 sister, my #See ch. 1:15 love,
my #See ch. 2:14 dove, my #ch. 6:9; [ch. 4:7] perfect one,
for my head is wet with dew,
my #ver. 11locks with the drops of the night.”
3 # [Luke 11:7] I had put off my garment;
how could I put it on?
I had #See Gen. 18:4bathed my feet;
how could I soil them?
4My beloved put his hand to the latch,
and my heart was thrilled within me.
5I arose to open to my beloved,
and my hands dripped with myrrh,
my fingers with #ver. 13liquid myrrh,
on the handles of the bolt.
6I opened to my beloved,
but my beloved had turned and gone.
My soul failed me when he #[ver. 2] spoke.
# ch. 3:1 I sought him, but found him not;
# [Prov. 1:28] I called him, but he gave no answer.
7 # ch. 3:3 The watchmen found me
as they went about in the city;
they beat me, they bruised me,
they took away my veil,
those watchmen of the walls.
8I #See ch. 2:7 adjure you, O #See ch. 1:5 daughters of Jerusalem,
if you find my beloved,
that you tell him
# ch. 2:5 I am sick with love.
Others
9What is your beloved more than another beloved,
O #ch. 1:8; 6:1 most beautiful among women?
What is your beloved more than another beloved,
that you thus #[See ver. 8 above]adjure us?
The Bride Praises Her Beloved
She
10My beloved is radiant and #[1 Sam. 16:12] ruddy,
# [Ps. 45:2] distinguished among ten thousand.
11His head is the finest gold;
# ver. 2 his locks are wavy,
black as a raven.
12His #ch. 1:15; 4:1eyes are like doves
beside streams of water,
bathed in milk,
sitting beside a full pool.#5:12 The meaning of the Hebrew is uncertain
13His #[ch. 1:10] cheeks are like #ch. 6:2 beds of spices,
mounds of sweet-smelling herbs.
His lips are #[ch. 2:1] lilies,
dripping #[See ver. 5 above]liquid myrrh.
14His arms are rods of gold,
set with #Ex. 28:20; 39:13; Ezek. 1:16 jewels.
His body is polished ivory,#5:14 The meaning of the Hebrew word is uncertain
bedecked with #Ex. 24:10; Ezek. 1:26; 10:1sapphires.#5:14 Hebrew lapis lazuli
15His legs are alabaster columns,
set on bases of gold.
His appearance is like #See 1 Kgs. 4:33Lebanon,
choice as the cedars.
16His #[ch. 7:9] mouth#5:16 Hebrew palate is most sweet,
and he is altogether desirable.
This is my beloved and this is my friend,
O #[See ver. 8 above]daughters of Jerusalem.
